DIY pretty envelope tutorial

Make an envelope to compliment any beautiful card or letter you. This quick, free tutorial shows you how to make your own envelope with and inside print.

Approximate time: 15 minutes

What you need:
  • A colour inkjet printer
  • A6 envelope template (download your free template here)
  • Glue or double-sided tape
  • Scissors or a craft knife
  • Cutting mat
  • A6 envelope template. Download free template here.

Step 1
Print out your selected decorative pattern on an A4 sheet of paper. Download envelope template and print on the back of your patterned paper.

Design tip: the pattern used here is from the Pretty In Pink digital paper pack which you can purchase here

Note: the envelope template here had dotted lines to indicate folding, the pdf download has the envelope outline only.
Craft Tip: I used 100 gsm paper. It's slightly thicker than normal office paper (80gsm) and hold the inkjet colour well.

2. Cut out shape with craft knife. You may want to use scissor to round corners.

Step 3
Fold panels from corner to corner. You can use a ruler to keep your folds aligned and clean. Do this for top, bottom and side panels.

Step 4
Apply glue or double-sided tape to the sides of the bottom panel. Fold up bottom panel and stick to left and right panels and you're done!

Craft tip: Take care to leave about 1cm glue-free in the corner where the bottom panel meets the side panel.

Now you have a matching custom envelope without being too matchy-matchy!
